Zebra Jumping Spider (Salticus scenicus)

Zebra Jumping Spider Salticus scenicus

These are fascinating little spiders that catch there prey buy leaping on it, and they are capable of massive jumps compared to there size of around 6mm. Apparently they can jump up to 100mm

We tend to get these around our house but this one was photographed on a local nature reserve which lead to me having more pleasing surroundings to set the subject in. I used my Canon 100mm macro for this shot along with a 21mm extension tube to allow me to get just a little more magnification.
