This week a change from what I expected to be doing. We should have been off to the borders of Scotland for a week but when we got snowed out of the holiday cottages and then high winds hit the UK our weeks holiday didn't happen. To cap things off the river Trent burst it's banks. Never one to miss an opportunity I set off to see if I could photograph Great White Egret, Little Egret and Grey Heron on one day. Join me on the challenge to see if I managed it.
Wyming Brook Landscape and Wildlife Photography
This week I meet up with fellow Nottinghamshire photographer and Youtuber Scott Walker of Walks on the Wild Side for a day of photography at Wyming Brook. This is a location I have always wanted to visit but never managed to get there. Being so close to our home county we decided to pop across the border and explore the place together while splitting up to come back with our own individual takes on the same location. Take a look at what I came up with as I explain some of my techniques for waterfall and fast flowing water photography.
Vanguard Endeavor ED 10x42 Binoculars A great choice for Wildlife Watching
After my stalking video last week and having ditched my old massive binoculars a while ago due to carrying cameras, lenses and tripods I decided that it was time to go back to carrying binoculars as I was sure I was missing opportunities by using the camera lens to scan ahead. In this video I give my real world review of these vanguard binoculars. If you are in the market for some high quality binoculars at a reasonable price point these could be right for you.
My stalking techniques to get close to animals
Perhaps my favourite method for getting images of wildlife is stalking. In this video I explain the techniques i use to not only get close to wildlife but also to take images. The satisfaction of getting close to a wild animal without it knowing you are there, taking images and then slipping away is the ultimate wildlife photography high.
Spot The Owl
This week I move away from my home patch to get away from my buzzard project which is currently at a state of standstill due to a lack of buzzards! After trawling the internet I find a potentially interesting site in south Lincolnshire, Deeping Lakes. Just looking for a day away and you never know a decent image, or any image I get a fantastic surprise with first images and film of the elusive Long-eared owl. Now don't get too excited these owls are notoriously difficult to get images of, being nocturnal and with a habit of roosting in dense undergrowth. Oh and to cap things off a couple of buzzards make an appearance, do you see the irony in that!😂
Photographing Mountain Hares in England
This week I head off up to Bleaklow in the Peak District of Derbyshire to photograph the stunning mountain hare. The Peak district is one of the few places in England where the elusive and beautiful creatures can be found, there main stronghold being in Scotland. Find out how I get on and pick up some tips if you want to go in search of the mountain hare.
